GVE, Nigeria NGO and CSI partner wins GE-USADF challenge
News: Three Kenyan and three Nigerian companies have emerged winners of the inaugural Africa GE-U.S. African Development Foundation Off-Grid Energy Challenge. The winners will receive grants of up to $100,000 to support their initiatives. The challenge was launched in Kenyan and Nigeria in 2013, with plans to expand to other African countries over the next 3 years.
CSI partner Green Village Electricity (GVE) emerged as a winner in Nigeria. GVEP designed an 18 KW solar-powered mini-grid that provides electricity to 140 homes in the Egbeke community of Rivers state.
“IEEE CSI contributed immensley to GVE’s Power Africa Award by providing us with a detailed referral attesting GVE’s corporate credibility, indicating IEEE CSI’s previous and future commitment to GVE; while affirming GVE’s competentence in executing the proposed project if selected as a winner,” director Ifeanyi Orajaka said.
